Neurofeedback (Brain Training) is a form of biofeedback based upon clinical research that dates back to the 1960s. This treatment is considered a “Biohack for the Brain” as it can produce long-term results through a cutting-edge method of teaching the brain to function in a more balanced and “normal” way. Studies have demonstrated that regulating brain wave activity can reduce or even eliminate symptoms of specific mental health conditions. This treatment is also referred to as Brain Mapping and Brain Training and is drug-free, non-invasive, and safe for any age. This treatment modality produces neural pathway stimulation and reorganization normally associated with Neuroplasticity to produce more normalized brain wave patterns. By creating new neuroplastic connections in the brain that can help shift the way the brain produces and distributes its electrical impulses measured by the Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta Frequency bands. As brain waves normalize, the patient’s brain is better able to regulate itself, and many of the symptoms the client is experiencing begin to diminish and fade away.
How it works
This is a non-invasive treatment that encourages the brain to develop healthier patterns of activity. Before starting treatment, an EEG device is used to create a “brain map”. It measures how fast and how high & low brain your waves travel. When dysregulated brain waves in different areas are identified, it may indicate the presence of psychiatric symptoms related to the specific dysregulation.
Once dysregulated areas are identified, specific “brain training” sessions are identified to target those areas. These peer-reviewed protocols can be provided at the office or at home, with special equipment. Training sessions can range between 40-80 sessions depending on the metabolic health of the individual client. The goal of treatment is not only to change how you think and feel but also to change your brain activity on a biological level. This is a non-invasive, non-medication treatment to help our brain waves communicate and function properly.
Specific areas of dysregulation are associated with specific psychiatric conditions including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- PTSD
- ADHD
- Poor Cognitive Health
- Memory Loss
- Panic Attacks
- Substance Use Disorder
- Learning Disorders
- Insomnia
- Concussion
- Migraine
- Tension Headaches
- and several other conditions
Step One:
Once we have assessed that you qualify for Neurofeedback, we will send you an email with links to establish your HIPAA-protected account. Once the account is established, we require that you complete several assessments that we use as an important subjective comparison to your objective Brain Map. These self-assessments include:
- Cognitive / Emotional Checklist (CEC)
- History
- Metabolic
Additional testing is highly individualized based on specific outcomes desired:
- For individuals who require treatment for Confusion, Memory Loss, and other cognitive health symptoms, we provide the Cognitive Performance Test (CPT).
- For executives, and top Athletes seeking treatment to enhance their mental focus to perform at a higher or the highest levels, we provide the Peak Performance Assessment (PPA).
Step Two:
The first step is a thirty-minute procedure (Brain Mapping) where a certified clinical staff member uses the Quantitative Electroencephalogram (QEEG) to map the brain.
Step Three:
Following this step, we can analyze the QEEG data to determine where there is dysregulation. Specific areas of dysregulation are associated with specific conditions like Anxiety, Depression, Substance Abuse, PTSD, ADHD, Cognitive Impairment, Dementia, and others. When moving to Brain Training, we “train” those specific areas, we focus on regulating the brain activity that causes those abnormal symptoms.
When Brain Training, we “train” those specific areas, we focus on regulating the brain activity that causes those abnormal symptoms. This training occurs on a subconscious level and is done using movies, games, or music. This training occurs on a subconscious level and is done using movies, games, or music. Typical minimum number of treatments range from 40-60 and can be higher due to the metabolic health of the client.
Not everyone is a candidate for Neurofeedback and for some individuals with Metabolic issues, Neurofeedback may take more sessions. With very few adverse effects, we stress that this is a treatment that is best done while in continued therapy or a treatment program as Brain Training can elicit traumatic and repressed memories that may need to be processed with a therapist.
