Intensive Inpatient Treatment
Intensive inpatient treatment at Treasure Coast Detox is a clinically managed residential program operating at ASAM Level 3.5 — Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential Services. This level of care provides 24-hour clinical staffing in a highly structured environment, offering the therapeutic intensity needed for early recovery without the medical monitoring required at the detox level.
Residential treatment serves two primary pathways. Individuals who have completed medical detox (ASAM Level 3.7) and need continued stabilization before stepping down to outpatient care are natural candidates. So are individuals whose substance use disorder — including Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), stimulant use disorder, or other conditions — does not meet the criteria for medical detox under Florida DCF protocols but still requires the structure and accountability of an inpatient setting.
A Structured Path to Recovery
Recovery takes hold in routine. Our residential program provides a purposeful daily schedule built around evidence-based clinical programming — at minimum 14 hours of structured clinical services each week, in line with Florida DCF Residential Level 1 standards. The goal isn’t simply to fill time; it’s to build the skills, insight, and resilience that sustain sobriety long after discharge.
Core components of the program include:
- Daily individual therapy sessions
- Multiple daily group therapy sessions focused on recovery skills, relapse prevention, and emotional regulation
- Educational programming on addiction, co-occurring disorders, and the recovery process
- Skill-building activities that support coping, communication, and self-management
- Case management services to coordinate care, address practical barriers, and begin discharge planning
- Medical care as clinically indicated
- Structured wellness activities that support physical and emotional health
Every element of the schedule is designed to be clinically meaningful — reinforcing progress and preparing each patient for the next step in their recovery.
Who Benefits From Residential Treatment
Residential treatment at ASAM Level 3.5 is appropriate for a range of individuals whose needs exceed what outpatient care can safely address. Those who benefit most include:
- Individuals who have completed alcohol or benzodiazepine detox and need continued clinical support before transitioning to a less intensive level of care
- Those with Opioid Use Disorder who require structured inpatient treatment but do not meet criteria for medical detox
- Individuals with stimulant use disorder — including cocaine or methamphetamine — for whom no Florida DCF-recognized medical detox protocol exists
- People whose home environment, social network, or life circumstances make early recovery especially difficult without 24-hour structure
- Anyone assessed by a clinical team as needing the containment and intensity of a residential setting to safely progress in recovery
No single path brings someone to residential treatment, and there is no judgment about how a person arrives. What matters is that the level of care matches the clinical need.
From Stabilization to Independence
Residential treatment is a bridge — not a destination. It connects the acute stabilization of medical detox to the real-world practice of outpatient recovery. From the first day of admission, our clinical team is actively engaged in discharge planning, ensuring that each patient’s transition is thoughtful, timely, and clinically sound.
When patients are ready to step down, the natural next level of care is the Intensive Outpatient Program at Vero Beach Recovery Center. Moving from residential to IOP locally keeps the clinical relationship intact and the momentum of recovery uninterrupted. This seamless progression is central to our continuum of care — a locally available pathway from detox through residential treatment to outpatient support, all in the Vero Beach community.
